Acclaimed developer Infinity Ward brings you Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to the best-selling shooter of all-time, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Modern Warfare 2 is a
first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the
popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and
following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat
settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier
Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with
it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of
gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the
co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most
popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of
Duty series.
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs. Gameplay The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them. Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches. Special Ops Co-op Mode Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality. Key Game Features

Fun if you like FPS gamesReviewed by Metal Man, 2010-03-03
the one thing i don't like about it is when your shot it covers the screen with blood and you can move or see as easy. other than that it has a good campaign and multiplayer experience.
not just a game - a cultural phenomenonReviewed by Matt Byrd, 2010-03-03
The first Modern Warfare game that came out represented a watershed
in 1st-person shooters, much like Halo, Doom, and Counter-Strike
did before it. And like the sequels to those games, Modern Warfare
2 brings back all that was great about the original, but slightly
tweaks the old formula and adding additional content to create a
bigger, more expansive gaming experience. And when I say they "add
additional content" I mean they throw in everything but the kitchen
sink, and then the kitchen sink just for kicks. Before I go on let
me say I'm not going to comment much about Spec Ops and the
single-player campaign. Both are lots of fun and more than worth
checking out, the latter being quite engaging and cinematic. But...
I bought this game for the multi-player (I love single-player
campaigns, but for those I stick with RPG's mostly), and I found
that Modern Warfare 2 blew me away. Literally. The controls are
perfect, and the game runs immaculately smooth which is all the
more stunning considering the absolutely gorgeous, just beautiful
graphics (after months of playing I'm still in awe at how GOOD this
game looks). From the hazy fog of Wasteland, the drizzling rain of
Underpass, the dark corners of Karachi, to the glaring sun of
Afghanistan Modern Warfare 2 never fails to provide visual
experiences to behold. Since I've I'll ready mentioned some of the
levels I'll go further into detail. Infinity Ward (the developer of
MW2) went all out to create levels that are all unique and all
diverse at the same time. I think you will find that there are no
levels (with the exception of Wasteland, in my opinion) where you
have to rely on a single tactic to be successful; i.e. there aren't
"shotgun" or "sniper" levels in this game. I've found I play
certain classes most often in some stages, but I've also found I
can go another route and be just as successful. MW2 will also keep
you hooked via the levelling system. There are tons and tons and
tons of of things to unlock, whether it be the weapons themselves
(there are a LOT of guns here), the weapon attachments, special
camouflage patterns (which is especially fun for me) or
achievements and titles. In addition, the gameplay itself is
addicting and keeps you hooked. Its extremely fast and intense, and
once you die you can get right back in the thick of it the next
second, making for non-stop action.
Ok, enough unadulterated praise. There ARE some foreseeable
downsides to MW2's multi-player. Firstly, this game is brutal,
absolutely brutal to new players or players that just aren't very
good. When I see players in a lobby that haven't progressed very
far, I almost know that they will be killed over and over and over
in the match to come. This game can be absolutely unrelenting on
the inexperienced due to how FAST you die in this game. I can
easily understand a new-comer being extremely frustrated while
attempting to learn the game but dying almost constantly during a
match, whether by campers, knifers, predator missiles, or AC-130's.
I can tell you this, when I first started playing I was fodder for
the other side. I remember getting maybe 4 kills a match while
being killed over 20 times. This game WILL take some getting used
to. I stuck with it and now I can say I'm pretty good, but it took
time (1.55 k/d ratio that is constantly climbing at the end of the
2nd prestige). So, you CAN get better but when you first come into
this game, realize that it can be absolutely unrelenting.
Now, I'm gonna do something a little different from the other
Amazon reviews I've seen, I'm going to offer some tips.
Firstly, when you're starting you should know that as a general
rule of thumb assault rifles will do the trick. I love to snipe and
use sub-machine guns but they are specialized, the assault rifle is
excellent in every scenario. Don't worry about not being able to
use the weapons unlocked at later levels, the beginning ones or the
near-beginning ones are fine. The Scar-H and Famas are two guns
unlocked quite quickly, and they are arguably the two best (but not
my preference because they seem like such noob cannons =P) weapons
in the game. Also... stopping power, stopping power, stopping
power! EVERYONE seems to use this perk, right? Yes. Because it is
pretty much essential, that's all. Don't question it. Use
Cold-Blooded or Light-Weight when you know what you're doing, if
you know you have the possibility of flanking the enemy or catching
them off-guard... if you're just running around looking for a fight
then you will not stand up to enemies without stopping power!! If
you're looking to snipe, then don't get down that you don't have
the sniper rifles unlocked at later levels. the Barret .50 cal and
the Intervention are the two best sniper rifles, the latter being
pretty much a guaranteed 1-shot kill machine with stopping power
and no silencer. This brings up another point. DON'T put a silencer
on the Intervention unless you are very, very good or just don't
want a lot of kills. One last piece of advice. The care-package
seems like the dream kill-streak reward, right? If you're looking
to slaughter the other team then no. The BEST set-ups for causing
carnage are the predator missile/harrier strike/chopper gunner or
AC-130 OR the Pave-Low.
Phew, now all I have to say is I give Modern Warfare 2 a 5... outta
5 =D
A junky, zany campaign that would be better off in an Ubisoft gameReviewed by John L. Williams, 2010-03-03
It's still Call of Duty, but the campaign is just ridiculously short and lame, which leaves the co-op and challenge missions to carry the game -- which they try to do, but ultimately can't. Look, you can get the original Modern Warfare for half the price of Modern Warfare 2, and it has a better, longer, more balanced campaign and the same awesome online component. Buy the original game and put the money saved towards something more worthy. NOTE: I took one star off the game due to the fact that holding a pistol off to the side like an idiot in a rap video doesn't belong anywhere NEAR a Call of Duty game. In retrospect, I should have taken off another star simply for the wasted inclusion of the "No Russian" level, which serves absolutely zero narrative purpose and is about as fun to play as stool sample is to take. They should've just called this game Call of Duty: Wal-Mart Edition, because it's the same trashy crowd who shops at Wal-Mart and thinks pro wrestling is real who will think this is a great game. In truth, it's a really poor version of a really great game from a few years ago. Also, Veteran is EASY, and there's nothing in the game that approaches the satisfaction level that beating "Mile High Club" on Veteran in the first Modern Warfare did. This is a very phoned in, cash grab of a sequel, and honestly not what I expected at all. Disappointing on all fronts, save for audio and visually. Caveat emptor.
Whoever says multiplayer sucks must suck at this game!!!Reviewed by Jonathan Schaumloeffel, 2010-02-27
Ok modern warfare 2 has the best multiplayer of any games. first it runs at 50fps (50 frames per second)(real life speed). no other first person shooter has done that yet!! and it never glitches.awesome guns perks and everything. how can you say this multiplayer is boring or not fun. is proably because you suuck balls at this game and stop whinning and giving it bad reviews because of your lack of skill and knowledge in video games. just cause you suck doesn't mean you can rate the game bad. and for all 40 of you who gave it 1 star. your retardid. this game is the bestselling game of all time AND THATS FACT. obviously its not 1 star material. it also got a 10/10 by most critics im pretty sure its not a 1 star game. i've played every game on the xbox 360. this is arguably the best one. oh and for the kid who called activision about his broken copy, sorry buddy discs just don't stop working for no reason. you obviously scratched and ruined your copy. oh and by the way "Activision" did not make this game, they published it. so obviously their not going to give your a new copy. infinity ward made it so no wonder activision doesn't care about your broken game. YOU BROKE IT!!!

Single player campaign is awesome! Great cinematic story. I'm a PC gameer so the xbox controls are a little tough getting used to. Multiplayer is ok, too many MW2 addicts online make for some real challenging matches.
