Mario & Sonic at the Olympic
Winter Games is a sports party game that takes players on
the Wii platform to Vancouver, Canada, host city of the
official 2010 Olympic Winter Games. This gaming experience
invites players of all ages and skill sets to face-off in
intense winter competitions in lifelike Olympic venues where
they can choose from a legendary cast of playable characters,
including new faces to the series like Donkey Kong, Metal
Sonic, Bowser Jr., and Silver. The game features intuitive
controls, multiplayer modes and Wii Balance Board
functionality allowing for a more interactive and realistic
gaming experience.
Like the previous game in the series which centered around the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games features player chosen characters entered into event from and inspired by the upcoming 2009 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. The game features a variety of play modes, both single player and multiplayer (coop and competitive). Within these players can choose to enter individual events or compete for all the events in the Olympiad. In addition to actual Olympic events players can also participate in winter-themed mini-games sprinkled throughout the game. Due to the overwhelming number of snow and ice sports making up the events of the Winter Olympics, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games makes extensive use of the Wii Balance Board, although it is not mandatory for play. Plenty of Events Prepare to compete in the Olympic Winter Games with your friends and family like you never thought possible. The action in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is made up of a combination of actual Olympic sports and special Dream Events, which are winter-oriented activities all about fun and that are specific to this particular game. Just a few of the actual Olympic events that players can look forward to trying their hand at include: alpine skiing, ice hockey, speed skating, bobsled, figure skating (singles) and snowboard halfpipe. Dream events include, but are not limited to: dream ski cross, dream snowball fight and dream alpine skiing. Your Favorite Mario and Sonic Characters Play as your favorite characters from the world of Mario and Sonic. All the characters featured in the earlier game, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, are available as playable characters, including Luigi, Tails, Yoshi, Knuckles, Princess Peach, Amy Rose, Bowser, Daisy and many more. Each character comes with his/her own unique movements and stats, making them better suited to certain events and less so to others. In addition to the characters noted above players can look forward to seeing a few new faces, like Donkey Kong, Metal Sonic, Bowser Jr. and Silver. In-Game Customization In addition to the wide variety of playable characters available in game, built-in WiiConnect24 functionality allows players to import their favorite Miis into the game as playable characters. Monies earned for success in-game can be used to customize either game provided characters, or a player's Mii. This is done through the variety of in-game shops available to players. These include: a Boutique for customizing clothing and gear; the Sports Shop where players and buy the gear necessary for events themselves; a Music Shop for fun Mario and Sonic tunes, and more. Fun for the Whole FamilyReviewed by D. Coleman, 2010-03-04
My wife, 4-year-old daughter, 2-year-old son, and I all love this game. The balance board makes it so even our 2-year-old can enjoy the games even though he hasn't mastered the pointing yet. Worth every penny!
Great family fun that gets everyone up having a goReviewed by Colin D. Saunders, 2010-03-03
We got the Mario & Sonic Winter Olympic game for our Wii along
with the Wii fit board as a late Christmas present. From day 1
everyone was skiing, snowboarding and sliding down the snow trying
to beat each others and their own persoanl bests. Every visitor has
had to try it too which adds to the fun and I'm sure hooked more
people whne they return home.
The graphics are excellent and we like the fact that if you do fall
off the side of the slopes or crash, it gets you back up and in the
race very quickly.
I have a 5 year old and 6 year old daughters who prefer this to any
of the other Wii games they have played which gives testiment.
Maybe now the winter olympics have finished this interest will wane
but a great buy.Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

My 7 and 9 year olds love this game. They have learned about the winter olympics and my son was even explaining curling to me after playing the video game! We've all enjoyed playing as a family!!
My kids LOVE it!Reviewed by krlock, 2010-02-25
I bought this last week for my 10 and 8 yr old kids- they both loved it and have played it for much of their free time this past week. They like most of the events and enjoy competing against each other or just playing on their own. I highly recommend it for kids of their ages. Definitely worth the money.
Buy itReviewed by Anonymous, 2010-02-20
This is a GREAT Wii game. I like Mario, love Sonic, and love these
sports. This game is really fun to play, never boring, and you even
get to be your mii's! My personal favorite sport is dream snowboard
cross. If you're a winter sports fan, a Sonic fan, or a Mario fan
buy it; you will LOVE it.
P.S. On figure skating, it's really fun to be Donkey Kong; he's a
hoot! :)
